"Consciousness Expansion Score Movie @ the Harris Theater": I've written about my "Consciousness Expansion" project so much that my inclination here is to cut corners & be excessively brief. The gist of it is that I, in conjunction with others, built an addition onto my house the primary purpose of which was to double the size of my (M)Usic Room. I documented this building & related events around it thoroughly with many movies. These eventually became distilled into a "Score Movie" version, a movie meant to function as the score for the generation of its soundtrack. Various cohorts were recruited to rehearse this in this newly built space. 3 of us then went to Art Rat Studios in Roanoke, VA, to premier the piece on August 13, 2022. These 3 were Eric Lipsky; Devin Sherman; & myself: tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE.
Next was working out the logistics of a Pittsburgh Premier. For the most part, my proposal was not replied to at all or given the brush-off. Finally, the Harris Theater became the willing venue. This documents the PGH premier as performed by Eric, Devin, & tENT - joined by Ben Opie. I'm happy to say that the projection conditions were excellent, making the Harris a good choice. For whatever reason, perhaps that it was a game day, perhaps due to inadequate publicity, perhaps due to a general lack of interest, the theater, capable of seating 190 people, only attracted 12 for the day's audience. Fortunately, as with the Roanoke premier, that small group was, as we say in the biz, a "quality audience" who seemed to appreciate the event deeply. It's worth noting that the movie "Rashomon" was next on the bill that day & that there were only 12 advance tickets sold for that. I'm happy to be able to make an association between Kurosawa & myself.
Despite the usual technical difficulties attendant on my trying to do the work of multiple people I think that this document turned out splendidly. An added bonus to the complexities of the basic project is the added touch of humor provided by my trying to squeeze in a meal of popcorn & chocolate-covered something-or-anothers while in the midst of following the rather complex & demanding score.
